The BLS New Instructor Course is a 16 hour program designed to prepare AHA
instructor candidates to disseminate the science, skills, and philosophy of resuscitation
programs to participants enrolled in the BLS courses. Upon completion of this
course, the instructor is qualified to teach BLS-Healthcare Providers,
Heartsaver CPR (all levels except first aid), and CPR for Families and Friends
programs. Prerequisites include: current BLS-HCP card, documentation of
affiliation with an AHA Training Center prior to enrollment for this program,
and 2 letters of recommendation: one from the BLS instructor who taught your
most recent BLS-HCP course and the other from you immediate supervisor/manager
which endorses your candidacy. Successful course completion is measured through
written exam and satisfactory demonstration lecture and skill performance.
Additional mentoring and monitoring requirements exist. Course completion cards
awarded after all requirements are successfully completed.
Intended Audience: Individuals with exceptional BLS skills and
knowledge who have a stated desire to teach BLS programs at all provider levels,
including the Healthcare Provider level. Also, anyone with a goal of becoming a
BLS Instructor Trainer or BLS Regional Faculty.
